Novell Releases Linux Desktop

Novell had made its first foray into desktops for the enterprise.
The news brings Novell in line with Sun and Red Hat. Sun, with its SUSE-based client, has already reached version two, while Red Hat entered the arena last May, following several months without a standalone product at all.
Novell's snappy entitled Novell Linux desktop powered by SUSE version 9, is likewise based on SUSE, having finalised the acquisition of the company early this year.
However, Novell's version is based on SUSE 9.1 rather than the Enterprise 8 code base used by Sun. Principally, the difference rests on Novell's client using the 2.6 kernel, while Sun is on 2.4.
